Is Fashion dying? Am I the only one excited about this?

Hold up. Fashion is dying? Well to me, yes…
2018 has been a wild year for Fashion, period.
From diversity in Fashion - in models and advertisements, to designers having their own scandal - Stefano Gabbana racism controversy, to streetwear culture - rise of streetwear brands and sneaker culture, Fashion has definitely hit its peak as a drama queen in 2018.
Don’t get me wrong, I don’t hate all these
that happened, in fact, I find it great that
everything went “out of control”?
Sounds weird, but it is through all these
happenings that I feel like we can really
see how bad Fashion, the industry, can become.
Knowing is a part of growing right?
So, how is Fashion dying?
Well, think of it this way.
When you keep pouring water into
the bottle, it fills up to the brim, you
continue to put so much that it overflows
and nothing can be contained anymore,
so you would have to empty it out in order
to fill them up again.
*side note - drink more water you guys*
Applying to the concept I have just mentioned,
the fashion industry has been filling up so much
and so fast that there is no time to “drink”,
or in other words, absorb and really think
about what is going on.
Fast Fashion is a thing and it is not okay.

Yes. I hate to say it but with the whole
sustainable thing going, fast fashion
still going strong. Some might say that it
seems impossible to stop fast fashion
because of the uncontrollable consumer
market out there, however, I do in fact
see a light to the whole situation.
To save something that has gotten so out of hand is to kill it.
Death. Such a negative word however not in this case.
I love Fashion and since I was 15, I have never not see myself working in the Fashion industry. Even when almost all of my classmates from my Fashion diploma course graduated with a career of a different industry, or the progression of my pay seemed like a pace of a sloth, or when how many times people around tells me that Fashion is not the industry I should be in if I want a better life, I have always been able to shake them off because I do really want to be in the industry.
It is a passion that never dies for me but recently I feel like something is changing.
At first I felt like OMG this bad, I feel like I have no interest in fashion, no longer excited about what is coming up, new collections, new brands, new anything, I am just so sick of it.
Here I am doing a degree in Fashion but I feel so out of place.
Then I realised, that maybe it is because that I lost trust in anything that comes up now for Fashion. As I said, so many things built up in 2018, I felt the hype, the adrenaline rush of people who manifest on the hype, and so much of the same thing.
Fashion never sleeps and people just keeps feeding on the hype, copying what makes sense (money and fame), and just kept going and never stop.
What am I excited for?
Change. It is time for change.
Transformation is always the key to
something greater. Once you are aware
of what is happening then you can better fix the situation.
Right now, 2019 is just the start.
The “feeding” hasn’t fully end yet but it will,
soon, because I do see people starting to get
frustrated by it, especially the millennials.
With more focus on Wellness and Sustainability
- the two big words of 2019, the Fashion we
used know will have a complete makeover.
After all, the face of Fashion if up to the people who wears it. If people are changing, which I think we are, Fashion will take the form of that as well.
Just know that Fashion is not be just Fashion anymore, it will be part of a bigger impact of the world. With sustainability being a huge part of the issue of global warming, we will start to see companies making big changes - H&M has already join the Global Fashion Agenda, a “A leadership forum mobilising the global fashion system to change the way we produce, market & consume fashion.”, setting intentions right will be the way to go forth for the whole Fashion industry.
How can Fashion become?

An aid. I see fashion as an aid to the world. We all have had enough of the glamorous side of fashion, those high prices and the constant chasing for trends. After bringing so much damage to the earth, it is time to be a part of the change.
Now, I don’t know about you but I am excited to finally see Fashion grow up and take responsibility. Also, it gives a brighter outlook on the reputation of Fashion.
“I work in Fashion”, hopefully will be a sentence that gives us more pride to share about.
THE VERDICT
Fashion is not for everyone before, however it will be if the industry is going to be open to new ideas. Let me know what you think? Are you as excited as I am? I would love to know your thoughts, leave a comment here or just DM me on @fashionnewsisathing on IG and I will see you on the next post!
